      • This is when the media makes a situation seem worse than it actually is, so the public goes into panic

      • As the media report on something, they can either calm the situation or cause panic. If the media reports on a crime then the public awareness will increase.

      • The media make the public believe that crime is always rising and getting worse.
    • Stereotyping of criminals
      • The term 'criminal' is highly generalised. This is because anyone who is a teenage boy or anyone wearing black or even a hoodie can be viewed as a criminal.
