        • Ethics-Individuals  are not named and kept confidential
        • Reliability-Police can collect crime truthfully as it is based on reports.

        • Reliability-Methods of recording vary in different places
        • Validity-Changes in recording crime lead to alterations in the results

      • Limitations
        • Ethics-May feel it is not confidential and private
        • Reliability-Survey is not sent to everyone therefore are not representative
        • Validity- Results may be biased, no victimless crimes and they may lie
      • PURPOSE:Allows people to see from the victims view
        • Business crimes and victimless crimes are not included and relies on victims memory
        • recorded by using the crime survey and victim survey
        • self-reported and include dark figure of crime
