  • Achievements of Weimar Republic under Stresemann

      • No more attempted revolutions after 1923 to begin with
      • By 1928, the moderate parties had 139 more seats in the Reichstag that the radical parties.
      • Hitler's Nazis gained less than 3% of the 1928 election
      • Some of the parties who had co-operated in the revolution of 1918 began to co-operate again

        • 1928: Kellog-Briand Pact signed by over 60 nations promising not to go to war to settle disputes

      • Stresemann more skilled than other leaders like Ebert
      • 1924:  The Dawes Plan spread out the reparations. A loan of 800 million marks was gained from the USA
        • Money went into industry, technology and public works
          • E.G. Swimming pools, Sports Stadia and Apartment Blocks
          • E.G.2 Replacing old with latest technology and the projects created jobs.
      • 1927: German Industry had recovered well
      • 1928: Germany finally reached same levels of production before the war and regained status as world's second greatest industrial power.

      • E.G.1 George Grosz produced powerful paintings criticising Weimar period politicians.
        • E.G.2 Otto Dix produced paintings highlighting the differences between the poor and the rich.
    • Weimar Constitution allowed free expression of ideas
      • Writers and poets flourished, especially in Berlin
      • The Famous Bauhaus style of design and architecture was developed
        • Artists such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky taught
        • Produced designs for anything from houses and shops to art galleries and factories.
      • 1920's was a golden age for German cinema with stars like Marlene Dietrich and Fritz Lang
  • Stresemann began to work quietly but steadily, reversing some terms of the TOV particularly reperations
