- Attitude and Prejudice Definitions
- Attitudes- A settled way of thinking or feeling about someone
- Prejudice- A preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience
- Discrimination Definitions
- Direct Discrimination- when someone is treated less favourably than another person because of a characteristic they have or are thought to have. This type of discrimination is obvious through words and actions
- Indirect Discrimination- when there is a practice, policy or rule which applies to everyone in the same way, but it has a worse effect on some people than others.
- Discrimination- the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people
- Stereotypes Definition
- Stereotype- A widely held and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing
- Socialisation Definitions
- Socialisation- The process in which individuals learn and perform behaviours expected of them in society. Habits, ideas, attitude & values are developed through this socialising process.
- Secondary Discrimination- Process in which a child comes to understand values and norms of the wider society other agencies other than family
- Primary Discrimination- the initial period of learning the ways of society, usually learned from family.
