    • Attitude and Prejudice Definitions
      • Attitudes- A settled way of thinking or feeling about someone
      • Prejudice- A preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience
    • Discrimination Definitions
      • Direct Discrimination- when someone is treated less favourably than another person because of a characteristic they have or are thought to have. This type of discrimination is obvious through words and actions
      • Indirect Discrimination- when there is a practice, policy or rule which applies to everyone in the same way, but it has a worse effect on some people than others.
      • Discrimination- the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people
    • Stereotypes Definition
      • Stereotype- A widely held and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing
    • Socialisation Definitions
      • Socialisation- The process in which individuals learn and perform behaviours expected of them in society. Habits, ideas, attitude & values are developed through this socialising process.
      • Secondary Discrimination- Process in which a child comes to understand values and norms of the wider society other agencies other than family
      • Primary Discrimination-  the initial period of learning the ways of society, usually learned from family.
