  • Camera
    • Movement
      • Tracking/Dollying
        • Can draw viewer into closer more intense relationship with object.
        • Moved on the camera dolly.
        • Can track away to create emotional distance or show end of action.
      • Tilt
        • Vertical movement up or down.
      • Crane
        • Moves camera. Aerial view - isolation etc. Smooth.
      • SteadiCam
        • Handheld camera strapped to harness. Gets in action, but still steady and smooth. Danger, tension, drama etc
      • Hand Held
        • Jerky and bouncy makes chaos. Sense of reality+ Makes it seem faster.
      • Zoom
        • Lens focuses from long shot to close up. Can suprise viewer. Reveals more of scene when xoom out. Zoom in brings background suddenly foward - hurtling = uncomfy.
      • Pan
        • Surveys and searches scene. Like a person looking around. Can be informal if panning between people.
    • Comp, Focus and Framing
      • Framing
        • Two objects framed together link. If a juxtaposition, we may change our views of the image/.
        • By isolating an object in frame (swimmer ihn sea), they seem lonely and isolated and insignificant.
      • Rule of Thirds
        • Stops a horizon appeasring, and stops it all being central.
      • Depth of Field
        • Deep focus allows audience to decide what to focus on - sense of realism.
        • Soft focus reduces the sharpness of the image, and is associated with romantic moods.
      • Focus Pulls
        • Audience must follow this focus. From one person to another perhaps.
      • Composition
        • Director dictates what we see and think with use of this. Deep or shallow? In focus or not? Central or to the side?
