- Chemistry
- Elements are materials made up of one type of atom only
- Compounds contain two or more different types of atom
- Mixtures are not chemically joined so, they're not pure subtances
- Protons are positive, electrons are negative & neutrons are neutral
- The nucleus is a dense core of protons and neutrons containing nearly all the mass of the atom
- The number of protons in an atom is known as its atomic number
- Electron Arrangement- Number of electrons per shell in an atom, e.g. 2,8,8
- Atoms can bond by sharing electrons, and by giving or taking electrons
- Metals and non-metals transfer electrons to form Ionic Bonds- Metals form a positive ion and non-metals form a negative ion
- Non-metals share electrons to form Covalent Bonds
- Word Equations summarise what is happening in a chemical reaction
- Formula Equations are the same as word Equations except they're in symbols
- Balancing Equations are equations with the same type and number of an atom, on both sides of the equation
- Reactants are what you start with and Products are what you finish with
- Limestone is a sedimentary rock. It is mainly made up of calcium carbonate but, has a mixture of other substances
- Thermal Decomposition is a reaction that breaks down metal carbonates when they are heated strongly
- Calcium carbonate- Limestone, Calcium Hydroxide- Slaked lime, Calcium oxide- Quicklime
- Elements are materials made up of one type of atom only
- Metals and non-metals transfer electrons to form Ionic Bonds- Metals form a positive ion and non-metals form a negative ion
