    • Montgomery bus boycott: started after Rosa Parks arrest for refusing to give her seat up for a white passenger, boycott lasted for over a year
    • Little Rock, Arkansas: group of AA students who integrated at an all-white school, faced intense opposition, harassments
    • Greensboro’s sit in: organised by 4 AA students, they denied service but peacefully remained seated, quickly gained attention and sparked protests
    • Freedom rides: to test whether bus restroom facilities had been desegregated, first 2 buses were attacked and people were beaten up at stops
    • Birmingham: tactic was to get arrested and fill jails which became full, high pressure of hoses and dogs were let out on children, media covers this
    • Freedom summer: wanted to encourage people to register and train them to pass voter registration tests, sent 45 volunteers, 2 disappeared and found dead, only 1,600 were accepted
