- When colonising,Spain wiped out the entirety of the Inca and Amazon populationsby bringing over diseases that killed them due to their immune system never encountering diseases like small pox.
- This is one of the reason that there is a large number of Latin Americans that can speak Spanish in places like Peru and Mexico
- Reasons to colonise other countries
- In order to get more resources such as metals, spices, tea and chocolate for use and trade.
- In order to show dominance and expand their territory
- In order to gain access therefore being able to protect their interests.
- What happened when the colonisers got there?
- They commit Ethnocide and Genocide.
- The colonisers spread diseases and illnesses.
- They provided education, medicines and jobs.
- Colonies Vs. Protectorate
- A colony is a country or area under full or partial political control of another country and occupied by settlers from that country. (Oxford Dictionary)
- A protectorate is a state that is controlled and protected by another.
- For Example: UK and Kenya
