      • Before 1944, all children had access to basic education until secondary school and after you had to pay

    • 1965- comprehensive schools
      • Abolished selection at the age of, 11. In 2014 nearly all students were attending state, funded schools, only 164 grammar schools remained

        • Increase social class inequality- Tough & Brooks said there was some evidence of covert selection e.g. Expensive uniforms, not promoting schools in poor areas and long enrolment forms.
