- Data Protection Act 1998
- DPA of 1998 gives rights to peoples personal data
- 8 principles
- 1) data must be used in a lawful way
- 2) data must be used for the specified reason
- 3) data should be relevant and not excessive
- 4) data must be accurate and kept to date
- 5) data should not be kept longer than necessary
- 6) the rights of the subject must be observed
- 7) data should be kept safe and secure
- 8) data should not be transferred abroad without protection
- Threats to national security, tax assessment and court cases are exceptions
- Freedom of Information Act 2000
- FIA of 2000 allows members of the public to access information
- Act covers emails, printed documents and data files
- Public organisations include government departments, police and schools
- It allows public people to request specific data
- Exceptions include an organisations knowing of it harming people
- Computer Misuse Act 1990
- CMA to stop hackers and cyber crime
- 3 new offences
- 1) gaining unauthorised access to a private network through hacking
- 2) gaining unauthorised access to a network in order to commit a crime
- 3) unauthorised modification of computer material
- Data Protection Act 1998
