- Van Hesling equips the group with garlic flowers , crucifixes and guns for lesser obstacles
- Van Helsing reminds them that Dracula is 'As strong as twenty men'
- Van Helsing warns them of the horrors they could encounter
- the encounter with the boxes-rats and movement in the darkness
- it is noted that only 29 out of the 50 boxes remain showing that Dracula is moving perhaps since Lucy is dead

- the group dismiss the red eyes because of how quickly they disappear. it can be infrenced that Dracula leaves after realising he cannot attack the intruders and leaves the rats to it

- whilst Mina dislikes being left in the dark she understands why and doesn't complain for Johanthan's sake

- Mina's dreams appear realistic and she dismisses them as dreams but the audience having witnessed what happened to Lucy has began to draw parrellels and realise what is happening to Mina.
