        • william cecil discovered the plot, by autunm 1571norfolk was executed for high treason.
      • significance: reenforced spanish treat and threat of mary. england knew that it had to build anglo french relations.ctholics were monitered more closey.
    • plots against Elizabeth were ultimately based on religon.
    • plots were often provoked by the religous settlement.

          • october 1586: mary was sentenced to death for her part in the plot. her death warrent was sighned in feb. 1587.
