      • Price of goods had been rising since 1921 but wages had stayed at the same level (this is inflation)
      • German workers striked following the French invasion of the Saar so nothing was produced.
      • To help strikers the government began to print more money meaning the Germany mark became worthless
    • Reparations
      • £6,600 million
      • Forced to pay due to the Treaty of Versailles
        • Had to pay allies for damage caused by war
      • Meant to be paid without the Saar
        • Germany's main industrial area which was put under the control of France
      • Meant that Germany had no money and the economy was very unstable
      • Stopped paying them in 1922
