- Equality- Ensures that a person is treated fairly, given the same opportunities regardless of differences and treated according to their individual needs.
- Such as they shouldn't be discriminated due to their differences, such as gender, race, age or disability
- Diversity- recognising and representing individual differences
- Individual differences include, faiths, beliefs, race, customs and sexuality.
- Valuing diversity involves accepting and respecting differences by a uniquid individual
- Rights are what everyone is entitled to and they are set out by legislation such as the equality act.
- Choice- Gives people control over their lives and increases self- esteem because it promotes independence and empowerment
- Confidentiality- means that private information should only be shared on a need- to know basis
- Protection from harm and abuse- care settings and practitioners should have safeguarding procedures and safety measures in place and follow the health and safety legislation.
- Equal and fair treatment- People working in health, social care or childcare should be treated within the law and according to their needs.
- Consultation- Individuals using health, social or child care services should be asked for their opinions and views about the care and treatment.
- Right to life- An individuals life is protected by human laws, everyone's rights to life should be valued and respected.
- Values of care include:
- Promoting equality and diversity
- Equality- Access to care services provided for everyone, wheelchair ramps, hearing loops, information leaflets etc. Staff using discriminatory language and if they do so it gets challenged.
- Diversity- offering choices, e.g. menus with a range of choices catering for all needs.
- Promoting individual rights and beliefs
- Rights- Mobility, dietary and communication needs are met. Ensuring all areas and resources in care meetings are accessible to all.
- Beliefs- Cultural and religious needs are met, e.g. menus with options such as hahal and kosher. They can provide a pray room
- maintaining confidentiality
- Private information shared by care workers only on a need- to-know basis, e.g. information about a patients illness and treatment would be shared only with the practitioners involved with the care.
- Information such as patients records kept securely in a locked filing cabient or password protected electronic records.

- The values of care in child care serviices
- Making the welfare of child paramount
- Keeping children safe and maintaining a healthy environment
- Working in partnership with parents, guardians and families
- Encouraging children's learning and development
- Ensuring equality of opportunity
- Valuing diversity
