  • How had USSR gained control of Eastern Europe by 1948
    • By 1945-1949, stalin created a Russian empire in eastern europe
      • This empire included; Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and east germany
        • Each had a Communist government.
        • In the west called SATELLITES because they were run like the soviet union like SATELLITES round a planet
      • How was Stalin able to create these empires
        • Military might of the soviet union in Europe after 1945
          • Stalin was able to keep his troops whereas western powers were under pressure of brining back troops. neither Britain or US prepared to fight over Eastern Europe
    • Spread of communism
      • Felt like the liberation of Nazism and people backed Stalin
