          • Although punishment of justice is vital, forgiveness is also necessary.
            • Allah is also known as Ar-Rahman (Merciful), Ar-Rahmin (Compassionate), Al-Karim (Generous)
          • Allah will be the final judge on Judgement Day (Qiyamah)
            • Qur'an 16:90 - Allah makes the rules, shows the way and reprimands someone firmly as a way of reminding
              • In some countries, the Shari'ah law system, set laws and punishment based on the Qur'an and Sunnah

            • It's a part of God's plan (Al-Qadr)
              • Humans are given free will and their actions will be judged on Judgement Day
              • Many Muslims believe Shaytan tempts humans into evil ways, but it can be resisted

              • It's important to forgive and reconcile in Islam
                • It's best to punish the criminal and keep law and order in society

            • When God will punish criminals on Judgement Day, they should be punished on Earth

                • For some countries, the Shari'ah laws is the law of the country
                  • This sets out rules and the punishments including use of executions

              • Important to help others when they are suffering, e.g. zakat

          • Surah 42:30 - 'And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is what your hands have earned; but He pardons much'
            • Surah 64:14 - 'if you pardon and overlook and forgive, then indeed, God if Forgiving and Merciful'
              • An example is when Muhammad helped an old lady who was sick, even though she threw dust in his direction
          • In Islam, there's 2 types of forgiveness, Allah's forgiveness and human's forgiveness
            • Humans  in God'sand human's forgiveness as they both make mistakes
              • In the Qur'an, there's no limit of God's forgiveness

      • Punishment
        • To order to get justice, you must be punished and be forgiven
          • Everyone was created with free will either to accept or to reject God's way
            • Jesus taught us to be compassionate, not to have vengeance

            • Some Christians are convinced that we are born with original sin, which tempts us to commit sins
              • Iraneus believed God does not prevent evil as this would interfere with free will.
                • Hick and Iraneus believe God created humans with the potential for spiritual growth

          • Exodus 21:24 - 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth'
            • Genesis 9:6 - 'Whoever sheds the blood of a man, by man shall his blood be shed'
              • It should be carried out by the authorities, not by an individual
                • Failing to show how serious a crime is will lead to the criminal not being scared of the consequences, making them commit more crime

        • If they confess, they believe that God will forgive their sins
          • Matthew 6:15 - 'if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins'
            • When Jesus  was being crucified on the cross, he asked God, 'Father, forgive them for they know not what they do'
        • Lord's prayer - 'forgive us as we forgive other's'
          • Jesus said to his disciples not to forgive seven times but... Matthew 18:21-35 - 'not seven times, but seventy times time'
            • In Catholicism, forgiveness happens through confession and atonement
        • For Evangelical Christians, forgiveness of sins comes through faith in Christ and his atonement on the cross
