- Features of a medieval Britain
- Farming and food - most people were peasants who worked on farm land. Bad harvests could lead to starvation
- Towns - they were small but busy containing lots of trade
- Limited technology - most things were made by hand and watermills and windmills were the most advanced technology. printing press - 1470s and no microscopes yet
- Religion - almost everyone was a christian and part of the roman catholic church. Many cathedrals and monarchies
- Government - ruled by kings who taxed people and used money to fight wars. did nothing for its people
- Living conditions
- Housing in countryside - lords lived in large houses and peasants lived in small wood and mud houses. slept with animals, open fires and small windows
- Housing in towns - houses were close together and only rich had gardens. workshops part of house and people didn't bother to clean their drains and streets
- Water - towns had conduits to lead spring water. in countryside people got fresh water from wells, animals shared so not clean
- Waste - public toilets in market and cesspits cleaned onto fields and water streams. in countryside waste heaps in gardens, some cesspits and waste used for fertilizer
