- Momentum and Collisions
- Momentum is a property of moving objects
- momentum = mass x velocity
- The greater the mass of an object the greater its velocity, and so the more momentum the object has
- Momentum is a vector quantity - it has size and direction
- In a closed system, the momentum before is equal to the momentum after
- Called the conservation of momentum
- Closed system - one where no external forces act
- When forces act on an object they cause a change in momentum
- The larger the force the faster the change in momentum
- The longer it takes an object to chance momentum, the smaller the force
- Why cars have safety features to slow the car down over a longer time period
- Momentum is a property of moving objects
