- Summary
- Rudyard and John attend the meeting. The army doctors are very excited to meet Rudyard due to his reputation, and John gets forgotten even though the meeting is about him. They begin a medical inspection of John whilst still talking to Rudyard.
- Major Sparks explains it is time for the eye test yet gets distracted trying to gain Rudyard’s respect by playing soldiers singing his poem. They begin the eye test and John cannot even read the top line.
- They explain they was willing to stretch the guidelines for John as he is Rudyard’s son, yet they cannot allow him to join the army as he is a danger to himself. Rudyard becomes frustrated by this and leaves after telling them they ‘have made a mistake’.
