      • Paranoia about communism: led to a significant curb on civil liberties, people had their freedom of speech
      • Liberalism: increasing violence against black civil rights made people uneasy, politicians produced the idea of positive discrimination
      • Counter-culture: hippies - simple way of life, lived in communal societies. Radical student groups - wanted to change society y producing a more equal world in USA
