  • Section B - Skill Acquisiton
    • Methods of Presenting Practice
      • Whole Learning
        • Involves the performer attempting the whole movement after observing a demonstration or being given verbal instructions
      • Part Learning
        • Involves the performer completing subroutines of the overall movement in isolation before attempting the whole movement
        • A --> B --> C --> D --> ABCD
      • Whole-Part-Whole
        • The performer attempts the whole movement and then they work on specific subroutines before completing the whole skill again
        • ABCD -> A -> B --> C --> D --> ABCD
      • Progressive Part
        • Involves the performer attempting the skill in stages and then linking the phases together after each has been learnt
        • A --> B --> AB --> C --> ABC --> D -> ABCD
    • Teaching Styles
      • Command Style
        • Involves the teacher making all the decisions
      • Reciprocal Style
        • Involves most of the decisions being made by the teacher but with some input from the students.
        • The teacher gives instructions to some of the students who then take turns to perform/coach each other
      • Discovery Style
        • Involves the teacher guiding the learner to find the correct action by prompting them if needed
      • Problem Solving Style
        • Involves the teacher setting a problem and the learner devising a suitable situation
    • Types of Practice
      • Massed
        • Involves the repeated practice of skills with LITTLE OR NO rest periods
      • Distributed
        • Involves the repeated practice of skills WITH A recovery period before the repetition of the skill.
      • Variable
        • Involves using a mixture of both massed and distributed practice within one session
      • Mental
        • Involves thinking through the skill WITHOUT ANY PHYSICAL MOVEMENT
        • The performer tries to create an image of themselves completing the skill
      • Varied
        • Practising a skill in lots of different situations
        • Essential for open skills
    • Methods of Guidance
      • Visual
        • Involves the performer trying to create a mental image of the skill by observing a demonstration or use of video/pictures (visual aids)
      • Verbal
        • Involves explaining a skill or strategy in words to help the performer understand what is required
      • Manual
        • Involves the performer being physically placed/forced/supported into the correct position
      • Mechanical
        • Involves the use of some form of device for support or to restricy movements to ensure the correct movement pattern is followed
