- The scots didn't like the English prayer book. It was too catholic for them!

- The scots defeated Charles in 1640. Charles then needed parliamemt to get money for the scots' compensation

- Charles was very angry at Pym for making the grand remonstrance, so tried to arrest Pym and Pym's supporters.
