- Primary Socialisation
- This takes place in early childhood, often in the home. It offers the basic norms and value of the family and culture.
- Imitation - Children will imitate the behavior of others around them.
- Manipulation - children are guided to certain activities by their parents
- Activities - these teach their children how to act.
- Secondary socialization
- This teaches the norms for specific situations. Can be interpersonal (teacher and pupil) or impersonal (media to audience)
- This involves external agencies and modifies the primary socialization.
- Role models - children will look up to people, and imitate their behaviour.
