- The Oscans
- Pompeii was under the Oscans from 800-750BC
- They were local inhabitants of Campania, a surrounding area
- Overall we don't know much about the Oscans
- They established the original city at the site
- They gave the city it's name, 'Pomepii'
- The Oscan language carried on being used despite being occupied by invaders at a later date
- They occupied regions 7 and 8 (you can see this by the irregular pattern in the layout of that area)
- They brought a farming community into Pomepii
