- What is MULTIPOLARITY
- This is an international system which has 3 or MORE POWER CENTRES
- This may ECOMPASS ARRANGEMENTS from TRIPOLAR SYSTEMS
- E.g. USA/JAPAN/EU in the later decades of the 20th Century
- This may ECOMPASS ARRANGEMENTS from TRIPOLAR SYSTEMS
- These are effectively NON-POLAR systems where POWER is so DIFFUSED that it CANNOT be portrayed as a POLE
- NEOREALISTS have argued that this CAUSES INSTABILITY & LIKELHOOD of WAR
- This is because multipolarity CREATES a BIAS in favour of FLUIDITY & UNCERTAINTY
- Whereas LIBERALS argue that multipolarity TENDS towards MULTILATERALISM
- This is where there are MORE POWER SPHERES to TACKLES BIG ISSUES of the day (COLLECTIVE SECURITY)
- This is because MORE DIVISION of the global power PROMOTES PEACE, COOPERATION & MORE INTEGRATION
