- Why did Japan want Manchuria?
- Japan was suffering the Great Depression and their economy was bust as nobody could afford to buy their silk
- Japan is made of small islands with little space for natural resources
- Manchuria had good farmland, industry and natural resources for them to use
- it was easy to invade because:
- Manchuria was geographicaly close to Japan
- Japan already had large industries e.g. the south Manchurian railway
- Japan was scared china may kick out the Japanese industry
- Japan didn't trust their politicians to protect as at the naval agreement in 1922, they agreed to reducing japans army
- the people supported them as they wanted power
- wanted to upset enemies
