- less lucky ones had to go into farming & spinning
- small children could crawl under machinery to close and open ventilation doors
- were payed very little
- many died due to unsafe machinery that wasn't checked
- many siblings had loved ones that were lost
- in the Stockport & Manchester cotton factories 50% of workers started from under the age of 10

- 1800's when industrial revolution in Britian was
- 1837 - 80% of Britians lived in the countryside
- 19th century - 50% of population lived in towns & cities
- new machines were invented therefore less manual labour so many flocked to towns to look for jobs
