Advantages and Disadvantages of Vaccinations

Advantages

  • Vaccines have helped control lots of infectious diseases that were once common in the UK (e.g polio, measles, whooping cough)
  • Epidemics, big outbreaks of disease, can be prevented if a large percentage of the population is vaccinated.
  • Vaccines can provide lifelong protection against a disease.
  • You will be protected from serious or potentially fatal diseases.

Disadvantages

  • Vaccines aren't always effective  - sometimes they don't give you immunity.
  • You can sometimes get a bad reaction or be allergic to a vaccine, but this is rare.

Evaluation

I think that the advantages of vaccinations outweigh the disadvantages because it is better to be immune to a potentially life threatening disease than get a small side effect.
