  • MacDonald went to George V to resign as he knew that his party wouldn't support May's proposed cuts --> came out as PM of Nat Gov

  • Seen as prisoner of Conservative Party by 1931 GE
  • Accused of abandoning w-c, putting his career first and giving in to capitalism
  • Proposed Nat Gov to his party as a means to ensure 'equal financial sacrifices' from all classes
