Advantages
- we have a load of information about the brain from what properties the brain is made from to how the brain functions however we do not have much knowledge of the mind. what this means is that things become all complex when trying to argue that we have a mind as the mind cannot be empirically proven. the advantage of the mind and body theory is that we can shave of unnesesary meaningless arguments through the Occam razor. this will make arguments about the mind much simpler to follow
- arguing that the mind and brain are the same thing will eliminate many problems one being the circularity problem face when arguing for behaviorism. this argument was brought up by ryle when providing evidence for the mind we relate our mental states to behaviors for example when you are sad you cry, however a problem with this would be that when explaining the action that we had just performed to explain a mental state we refer back to a mental sate. for example if i bang my arm i will cry and in order for everyone to know im in pain they must understand my mental state this is referring back to the mental state.
- we just dont have the advanced knowledge of neroscience but once we do we can asses the elements with the mind and the brain

Disadvantages
- talk of the mind is different as appose to the talk of the brain as they both are discussing different things for instance when im in pain my mental representation/ expression would be im in pain as appose to the brains neurological definition being my c fibers are firing. how can they be identical when they are taking about different things the mind being a sensation and the brain being a types of neuron. however a response to this would be the meaning and reference. both definitions from the mind and the brain may be talking about diffident things but however they refer back to the same thing that being the reference such as my c fibers and my pain talk are referring back to the same thing which is the reference and in this case it is the sensation derived from me banging my arm
- the spatial location is another problem that arises when trying to prove that the mind and brain are identical, the problem is that unlike the brain the mind is not made up of any substance and as a result lacks in any spatial location. the brain has a spatial location and as a result can also e divided into many pieces because the mind lacks that it is unable to do so.science may not be developed much and that's why we are unable to search for a spatial location of the mind as well as that my mind can be divided as it can be divided into thoughts, feelings and emotions ect
