Overall comparisonboth poems present the theme of marriage but in different ways for example the use of dialect hints towards beliefs from the personas culture words such as "ven" and "di" in singh song show his indian culture and implies that because of his upbringing he treasures and takes care of his marriage which he views as a special thing this attitude can also be seen in the repetition of the noun "bride" which connotes to a sense of pride and affection however in contrast to this the dialect presented in the poem the farmers bride insinuates that the persona has no or little education and therefore farming has and will always be his top priority. As well as this the noun "bride" is used in an alternative way to in singh song as it suggests that she is young and the relationship has not been cared for and nurtured over time hense why she remains untitled, this is significant as the poet charlotte mew wrote the poem from a male perspective presenting women in a stereotypical light for example becoming mothers, doing housework and raising children. |
