Blood group antigens

  • ABO and Rh D antigens tested
  • abs in transfusion
    • naturally occurring:
      • anti-A or B
      • mostly IgM
    • immune
      • e.g. anti Rh D
      • mostly IgG
      • due to exposure to foreign RBCs (e.g. via pregnancy or transfusion)
  • 15% of pop are RhD negative
    • can used for pos and neg recipients
