Changing Attitudes Towards Marriage and the Family in the UK

Reasons for changing attitudes:-

• The UK is now a multi-faith and multi-ethnic society
• People are more tolerant of difference
• Less focus on Christian teachings
• The Church has less influence
• Decline in traditional family values
• Women are more equal to men in society
• Fewer people are getting married and more are choosing to cohabit (live together without being married)
• Fewer religious marriage ceremonies
• Homosexuality is no longer an offence and is more acceptable - homosexual couples can now marry legally
