What The examiner is looking for!

• A well structured, deatiled, description of an event/place.
• Effective use of devices and vocab to explore the people and places, on both a large scale and a small scale
• An appropiate choice of descriptive langauge
• A well paragraphed, and sequenced peice
• Varied sentence length and structure
• A wide range of appropriate and ambitious vocab

How to structure your answer

• Spend at least 5 minutes planning
• START-set the general scene, E.G. bar, park. Draw your reader attention through using vivid imagery, and sensory language.
• 2ND Zoom- Zoom in on one thing and describe detail. E.G. a person, a group of people etc. Use figurative language( E.G. metaphors,similes,personification) and good adjectives to show off descriptive skills.ADJECTIVES- Beautiful, Glamourous, Discusting. 
• 3RD Zoom- Zoom out a little bit to describe that person in thier surroundings. (What a small section of the scene looks like, what people are doing.
• LAST- Return to the overall scene, and end with an intresting detail ( E.G. the gig you have been waiting for, starts)

EMPATHY QUESTIONS.

Empathy questions require you to imagine you are a character in the text.

E.G.

1. Imagine you are Mrs Banks. Write a diary entry to show you response to the events in the text.

2. Imagine you are Mrs Banks at the the end of the story. Write a letter to a friend explaining your thoughts and feelings abou the robbery.

• An effective and well constructed plor
• A consistent narrative voice (stick to one tense, and one point of view- 1ST/ 3RD)
• Effective characteriasation (showing, not telling, and dont have too many characters)
• A story that keeps the reader wanting to read on and finish the story.
• A wide range of ambitious vocab

BEGGING > MIDDLE > END

1. Be unusual or attention grabbing (A statement, a short sentence, straight into the action). Create a suitable mood, Introduce the main chararcter.

2. A PROBLEM / CONFLICT- Keep things moving in your main character should quickly face a problem, that they have to face and overcome!-- BUILD TENSION--

3. MIDDLE-- There should be a sense of rising action as your main character prepares to meet the climax of the story, near to the end of the narrative.

4.RESOLUTION-- Everything needs to be tied up. --THIS DOESNT MEAN IT HAS TO BE A HAPPY ENDING-- but it needs to leave your reader satisfied if there has been a point to reading your story.
