Feminist Movement: Compaign for equal rights e.g. Suffragettes

1918- The Representation of the People Act,                                Women aged 30 or over allowed to vote.

1928- The Electoral Reform Act,                                                    Women aged 21 allowed to vote (same a s men)

Both World Wars helped change public perception about the ability of women to work.

1970 Equal pay act- paid the same as men for the same job.

1975 Sex Dicrimination Act- Illegal to discriminate against women in employment

1979 Margret Thatcher 1st democratically elected leader in a weatern nation.

2010 147 female MP's out of 650 in the UK.

2011 17% of FTSE 100 Companies were run by women.

ROMAN CATHOLIC ATTITUDE's

Humans are together created in the "image of God"

"man and woman have been created in perfect equality..." 

Men and women are EQUAL but DIFFERENT 

Women can Perform alll of the same roles as Men in the Church, EXCEPT for ordained Priesthood.

The Lord Jesus chose men to form the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose the next Pope.

Genesis teaches that men and women are equal but different.

Men and Women have different roles in Society.

Support a very traditional view of marraige.

THe Husband is Provider; Wife is home-maker

"the head of a wife is her husband"                                               "Wives submit to their husbands in everything"                                     "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet"

Women should not preach or lead in Church.

Many mainstream Protestant churches have women ministers.

When the CoFE voted for Women Priests in 1993, some members left in protest.

Jesus only chose male Apostles because it was the culture of the time. 

He would have female Apostles today.

"There is neither... male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus"

Pauls view on women is more about his Jewish Heritage than Gods Word.
