Euthanasia means 'a gentle and easy death,' but it refers to 'the act of inducing an easy death.'
Voluntary Euthanasia - sometimes called assisted suicide, the sufferer had made it clear that they want to die and has requested help.
Involuntary Euthanasia - means no consent, patients cannot express a wish to die or those that can but don't wish to die. This is double effect. Double effect is when a patient doesn't wish to die but the continuation of treatment results in death.
Pros and con include:
- Euthanasia is a slippery slop - how far will we go?
- Doctors are playing God - is this there decision?
- Sancitity of Life - life is a present from God, you can't just throw it away.
Euthanasia is legal in Switzerland, Holland and Oregon but illegal in Britain.
