Conservative plate boundary
In California, the North Amercian plate and Pacific plats slide past each other on the San Andreas fault.
Convergent/destructive plate boundary
Divergent/constructive plate boundary
In the North Atlantic, the extrusion of magma is so great it has created Iceland.
Hawaiian chain of Islands (hotspots)
East African Rift Valley (rift valley)
Extending 3500kn from the Red Sea to Mozambique, the East valley passes through Ethiopia, Kenya and the Western valley through Uganda and Malawi.
Over the past 30million years the crust has been stretched, causing tensions in local rock. Magma rises, causing faults and the land to fracture, the land between these faults then collapse into deep, wide valleys which are separated by upright blocks of land called horsts. The magma forces it way to the surface and creates volcanos.
Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya, Mount Longonot, Mount Mjiragonogo... have all formed this way and have steep terraine surrounding it, due to high energy eruptions
