What is computer operating system
Smart cards
A smart card is a device that includes an embedded integrated circuit that can be either a secure microcontroller or equivalent intelligence with internal memory or a memory chip alone. The card connects to a reader with direct physical contact or with a remote contactless radio frequency interface.
When Will you Use themIn both primary and secondary care areas where the Smart Cards are used to access the clinical operating systems.
What do they do?In Healthcare, Smart Cards are used to access clinical systems, i.e. Lorenzo & SystemOne.
Lorenzo
Lorenzo is a computer software programme adopted by the HUTH Trust to provide its EPR and PAS. It was originally developed as part of the failed National Programme for IT in the NHSand has evolved from this.
What does it do? uCare management/ Bed management uInvestigation requests and results uClinical documents and clinical data capture forms uEmergency care uTo Take Out (TTO’s) and Outpatient Prescribing.Nervecentre
WebV system
What does it do WebV
What does it do?
Current / Clinical Portal
• Ward Management
• Patient Observations and Malnutrition Calculator
• Electronic Discharge
• Clinical Handover
• Blood Tracking
• Task Management
• Patient Flow
Systmone
What is it?
SystmOne is a centrally hosted clinical computer system developed by Horsforth-based TPP (The Phoenix Partnership). It is used by healthcare professionals in the UK predominantly in Primary Care. The system is being deployed as one of the accredited systems in the government's programme of modernising IT in the NHS.
uWhere will you use it?
Predominantly in Primary Care, in GP, District nursing teams etc
What does it do?
Is a complete clinical computer system which enable health and social care organisations to deliver intergraded care. It focus around an Electronic Patient Records system which is transferable to all organisations that operate the system.
PACS
PACS stands for Picture Archiving & Communication System. It is a medical imaging technology which stores and archives radiological imaging from the main modalities: Plain film (PF), Computerised Tomography (CT) & Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
uWhere will you use it?In both the North & South Bank Acute Trusts (HAY & NLAG)
uWhat does it do?Will store and archive all radiological data obtained from imaging, scans etc. It is possible to view both the digital images from the scans and also the written reports generated from this. As it is digital, images can be sent to other organisations, for example multidisciplinary team communication at different sites.
Data protection
Data Protection is EVERYBODIES responsibility.
The Data Protection Act (DPA) (2018) is an Act of Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland which defines UK law on the processing of data on identifiable living people. The DPA supplements the General Data Protection Regulation (2018) which regulates the collection , storage and use of personal data. It is the main piece of legislation that governs the protection of personal data in the UK.
If you breech the data protection act you are BREAKING THE LAW!
The passwords and access cards you now have allow you access to a phenomenally large repository of confidential and sensitive data. You are bound to ensure you keep this data confidential and private at all times.
Do Not: uDisclose your passwords to anyone uInput data on other peoples account uIf your clinical placement area allows the printing of confidential information, i.e printed handover sheets, do not leave them “lying around” and ALWAYS dispose of them in a confidential waste bag at the end of your shift. uLoose your Smart Cards; if this happens report it immediately to your placement area and the University. uAccess any data that is not relevant to your work area. uAccess data for personal reasons
