Love Stories (2004) - Judith Jamison, Rennie Harris, Robert Battle

- Judith Jamison's collaboration with hip hop pioneer Rennie Harris and modern dance maverick Robert Battle.

- The piece was inspired by the Akan word 'Sanfoka' with 'Sanko' meaning to go back and 'Fa' meaning to take. Roughly translated 'Sanfoka' means 'we dont know where we are going unless we know where we have been'.

- It celebrates African American heritage, the rich legacy of Alvin Ailey and the joy of dancing itself.

- Love Stories marked AAADT's move to their new home in the heart on Manhattan, The Joan Weill Center for Dance.

- The concept of 'Sanfoka' is explored in three sections: Past, Present and Future.

- Lighting: light source is used to represent Aileys presence, gobos are used to suggest light streaming in through large windows of a typical New York dance studio, occasional pools of light are used to highlight a soloist or duet, single light reappears before a backdrop lifts to reveal many lightbulbs above the heads of the dancers.
