Macbeth quotes a2 english lit B

A series of "quote cards" on Macbeth, Lady macbeth and the witches. Some relevant things they say that can be applied to various gothic elements. I have only included a few on each character as i am just starting to learn them.

MACBETH QUOTES

MENTAL ILLNESS/PARANOIA- "THOU CANST NOT SAY I DID IT. NEVER SHAKE THY GORY LOCKS AT ME!" (When Macbeth sees Duncan - a good example of Macbeth's paranoia)

AMBITION/TYRANNY- "VAULTING AMBITION WHICH OERLEAPS ITSELF AND FALLS ON TH’OTHER" (Ambition spurs men on to rush ahead toward disaster)

"I CANNOT SPURR MYSELF" (To kill Duncan)

IF CHANCE WILL HAVE ME KING, WHY, CHANCE MAY CROWN ME" (Macbeth becomes over ambitious and believes his life as king is "fate")

"HEAR IT NOT DUNCAN, FOR IT IS A KNELL, THAT SUMMONS THEE TO HEAVEN OR HELL"

FEAR -"WHATS THE MAN NOT BORN OF WOMAN? SUCH A ONE AM I TO FEAR, OR NONE" (Macbeth is only scared of someone not born of woman - he believes such a person doesn't exist)

SUPERNATURAL -"THEN LIVE MACDUFF. I HAVE NO REASON TO FEAR THEE" (He believes the witches' prophecy without question)

This is really useful, but I'd like to point out a mistake in your explanation of the first quote for 'Macbeth', he says this line when he sees the ghost of Banquo, not Duncan, but apart from this, these are really useful cards, thank you!!! :)

'Quote' is a verb (a doing word - as in TO quote something), so it should really say 'Macbeth quotations'.
