Representing graphics

A pixel is the smallest possible dot on a computer screen that can have its colour set indepently.

It's a portmanteau, which is a word for two words combinded. 

Pixel is made from: picture (pix) and element (el). 

A bitmap is a set of bits that represent a graphical image, with each bit (or group of bits) corresponding to a pixel in an image. 

Photos that are taken with digital cameras will be bitmap images.
