revision tips

Hi people :)
In this cards I would like to help you revise your subject for GCSEs or A-level, I am currently working toward my GCSEs so for A-level you might need more time to revise each subject. Anyway, enjoy your reading and your revision  =]

Make a plan and get organised!!

start your revision by making a revision timetable and get organised!
Buy everything that you need:

  • pencils (and any others stationery like rulers and rubbers)
  • pen, coloured pens
  • file books
  • revision books
  • text books
  • papers ( A4 and A3)
  • a revision journal which you can make on your own

Stick to your timetable

At the start it can be really hard to stick with your timetable especially if you just started and you have to revise the same subjects every single day so try to vary your revision by mixing up the subjects but be aware that you need to wait about 30 minutes to change from subject to subject or your brain will confuse the new information with the old information. Making it really difficult for you to revise and let new information sink in (unless you are the new Einstein!)

Revision time unluckily :(

Start your revision at least 3 months before your examinations.
Start your revision when you are feeling really confident and with your favourite subject to give you a boost to revise even your worst subject (trust me).
As you revise, note the things that you know well and that you know less well and divide them into two columns for example: areas and volumes are in the easy column and find the area and volume of a frustum is in the hard column.
In this way you'll be surprised of how many things you know better when you will have concentrated on the stuff you find the hardest.

The next day start your revision with your least favourite subject (like german) and start your day with a treat to remember yourself that at the end of the day you learned really well your least favourite subject and this can also boost your confidence.Continue with this plan for ONE week only.

Next thing you can do is to mix both your strong and weak subject in a day and continue like this until you have two weeks left till your examination.
At that point you should, actually, you MUST know everything that you have to know for your examination and start to study your weakest subject fisrt in one day and your strongest subject another day.

the day before the exam:

everyone suggest that you should realx on this day so really and I mean really RELAX; yesterday was your last day of revision so really, you should know everything by now and if no, tough!! You wasted your chance of getting top grade and this is the awful truth.

By relaxing I mean sleep well, eat well and treat your self well, just think that you have studied really hard for a long time and that you deserve to be happy and get the results you want!!

some revision aids are:

  • MIND MAPS, COLOUR THEM WITH LOADS OF COLOUR IN THIS WAY THEY WILL STICK INTO YOU MIND
  • RECORD YOUR SELF INTO A RECORDER AND LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN
  • ATTACH A MEANING TO IT! BY ATTACHING A MEANING TO WHAT YOU ARE REVISING YOU ARE PROCESSING IT TO A DEEPER LEVEL AND IT WILL STICK MORE EASILY INTO YOUR BRAIN!
  • LOOK AT PAST PAPERS. THEY ARE INCREDIBLY USEFUL ESPECIALLY IN MATHS AS THEY ASK THE SAME QUESTION OVER AND OVER AGAIN BUT THEY JUST CHANGE THE NUMBERS AND THEY WAY IN WHICH THEY WRITE IT.

MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU SHOULD USE ALL OF THE ABOVE TECHNIQUES TO REVISE WELL AS YOUR BRAIN GETS BORED WHEN IT SEES THE SAME THINGS SO BY CHANGING THE WAY IN WHICH YOU ARE REVISING YOU'LL REMEMBER YOUR STUFF WELL.

AND ANOTHER THING...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU STILL DOING HERE? GET UP YOUR BUM AND REVISE!
ENJOY YOUR REVISION TIME AND STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY ;) BUT REMEMBER THAT ALL STUDY AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY
