Theory's

We are naturally inclined to make bonds with our parents
We want someone we can trust and be loved
If this isn't achieved their is a high chance the individual will develop problems when with relationships and bonds

Believes we are biologically programmed to be able to speak language and to understand structure of language e.g. French people say house blue English would say blue house naturally

He believes these things would happen by certain ages

Criticisms:
Couldn't explain why people don't understand what certain words mean
No scientific studies/experiments to prove this
No explanation as to why people couldn't speak, or had delayed speech development

Neglectful- when a parent doesn't meet your needs e.g. No food in the house, verbal abuse etc

Authoritarian- very strict, disciplines child every time

Authoritative- middle point, some times strict sometimes loving and caring

Permissive- let's them do what they want, not strict at all

Nature not nurture argument
Believes we are biologically programmed to develop physically at certain ages
Our physical development isn't based on the environment but our body e.g. You can walk by 9 months

We have developmental norms and milestones

Criticism: didn't look at IES only physical

This is the intellectual/cognitive development

1. Sensory- children learn by seeing things, touching (5 sesnses based). Birth-2
2. Pre operational- they do things but don't know why ( no reasoning), think about things symbolically, still ego centric 2-7
3. Concrete operational- can figure things out and understand why if things are in front of them 7-11
4. Formal operational- starts complex thinking, can understand how people think (more empathetic), can solve things mentally, complex plans e.g. Puzzles, decisions for the future, time etc 11+ adolescents

Assimilation- the new idea is introduced
Accommodation- see the group it fits in
Schema- understands idea

E.g learning a new subject in maths, it's on shapes, then association is created and then idea is understood

Activity
The theory from cuming and Henry was if people in their later adulthood had an opportunity to reminisce and tell their life story it helps create self- esteem and confidence. If they have money, good health, take out grand kids, involved in the community, participate in other activities e.g. Gardening they are less likely to decline from society/activities as they will have a better emotional and physical wellbeing.

Social disengagement
Mobility problems, health or financial problems, isolated, family and friends far or dead can cause low self concept, lower physical health and emotional. The elderly disengage from society

Pre- disposed: already in your biology
The theory that everyone has pre- disposed illnesses in themselves, when people are highly stressed the illness can be triggered.
Holmes and Rache's stress scale say that different things trigger a different level of stress e.g. Loosing your USB to becoming homeless
Being stressed puts pressure on your heart, thins the blood, raises blood pressure, affects sleep, lowers immune system.

Social learning theory people learn through observing and modelling the behaviours of others.
Children will. Observe the behaviour, "internalise" it, model it and depending on the response they receive will repeat. Whether behaviour is negatively or positively reinforced e.g. A child sharing with another child receiving praise is Lilly to repeat that behaviour again
