homeostasis is how your body maintains its internal body temperature, 37oc.
if the body is cold, there are a number of things it will do to try and heat up:
- erection of hairs - this traps a layer of insulating air next to the skin
- shivering - respiration occurs, which makes the muscles move, which produces heat
- blood vessels near the surface of the skin get smaller (vasoconstriction) - so less blood goes near the surface, so less heat is given out
