Vesicles and Summary
The processes explained prior to this sheet only apply to small molecules. Large molecules and sometimes whole cells are moved in and out of cells using membrane vesicles.
Endocytosis
This is the transport into the cell, materials are enclosed by a fold in the membrane and this then pinches shut to form a closed vesicle. Technically, the material has not yet breached the membrane so it is usually digested and the small molecules dealt with as described in earlier sheets.
