There is a strong relationship between the degree of genetic similarity and shared risk of schizophrenia. This is shown by Gottesman's (1991) large-scale family study: the shared risk of identical twins developing schizophrenia is 48%, whereas for non-identical twins the risk is 17% and for siblings it is 9%
