Changing party fortunes - 1918-19
Status of political parties in 1918:
- Liberal - WW1 created split in party with most against increasing government control
- Labour - close with unions and backed by working class
- Conservative - represented middle class and working class who wanted to rise up the classes
How Labour Party developed:
- after 1911 became easier fro working classes to get into politics after MP's started to get paid
- evolved from Labour Representation Committee of trade union congress
- 40 MPs in 1910 general election
