The Korean War : June 1950-August 1953
- It began when North Korea launched a full scale invasion on South Korea.
- The US joined South Korea along with Britain.
- An armistice was signed as no side was able to defea the other.
Why did Britain get involved?
- The government's foreign secretary Ernest Bevin believed that communist agression needed to be challenged.
- Participation would show America that Britain was one of the main powers besides Russia.
Evidence of success
- Britain were promised to be consulted before `Americans considered using nuclear weapons in Korea, showing a close relationship.
- Britain had demonstrated its loyalty to the US.
- Britain had helped to fight communist agression and to establish NATO.
