The Korean War : June 1950-August 1953 

• It began when North Korea launched a full scale invasion on South Korea.
• The US joined South Korea along with Britain.
• An armistice was signed as no side was able to defea the other.

Why did Britain get involved?

• The government's foreign secretary Ernest Bevin believed that communist agression needed to be challenged. 
• Participation would show America that Britain was one of the main powers besides Russia.

Evidence of success

• Britain were promised to be consulted before `Americans considered using nuclear weapons in Korea, showing a close relationship.
• Britain had demonstrated its loyalty to the US. 
• Britain had helped to fight communist agression and to establish NATO.
