- The yield of a chemical process is how much you actually make. The percentage yield compares the amount made with the maxium amount that could be made, calculated as a percentage.
Calculating percentage yield
The percentage is calculated using the equation:
Percentage yield = amount of product collected divided by maxium amount of product possible x 100
The maxium amount of product possible is calculated from the balanced equation for the reaction.
