CASE STUDY: CENTRAL AMAZON CONSERVATION COMPLEX
Destruction of the Amazon rainforest has been particularly harmful to the biodiversity there. To prevent this some places have been protected by law meaning that they are undisturbed. There are three seperate reserves which are linked and is known as the Central Amazon Conservation Complex. The total size of these areas is bigger that Switzerland.
- Jau National Park.
- Mamiraua Sustainable development reserve.
- Amana Sustainable development reserve.
This is a UNESCO world hertiage site. It is the second largest protected area of the tropical rainforest in the world. The area is sparesely populated and there are no transport links other than boats. No major projects such as hydroelectric damsn and some incidences and poaching by outsiders for commerical gain.
